Important Factors in the Development of Medical Nonwoven Fabric and Their Applications

Ⅰ. Two important factors in the development of the medical nonwoven fabric industry

Medical nonwoven fabrics are mainly used in the processing and manufacturing of various medical and health textiles. Medical nonwoven fabrics have a very wide range of applications in the medical and health field and have become an indispensable part of the medical and health industry.

With the increase of people's demand for health and health care, the development of the medical nonwoven fabric industry has been promoted. The following favorable factors have played a great role in the development of the medical nonwoven fabric industry.

(1) Incentive measures for population policies in many countries will expand the market demand for maternal and infant products. The number of newborns continues to increase, and the market demand for some baby hygiene products such as diapers and sanitary napkins and feminine hygiene products continues to increase, which indirectly develops the medical nonwoven fabric industry.

(2) Aging of the population continues, and pressure on medical and social services continues to increase. This will drive the consumption of medical and health materials, especially disposable environmental protection masks, surgical gowns, surgical hats, wound care products, etc.

Since the raw materials of these items are medical nonwoven fabrics, the trend will undoubtedly drive their development. The number of medical and health institutions will increase rapidly in the next few years, which will drive the demand for medical nonwoven fabrics for a long time. With the increase of medical and health institutions, it is expected that the market potential of medical nonwoven fabrics will still be quite large in the future.

Ⅱ. The application of PLA nonwoven in medical care

Applications include barbed medical protective clothing, disposable spun PP protective clothing and SMS medical protective clothing. At present, the development of new products in the field of PLA nonwoven includes two aspects: one is the new expansion of existing materials in the field of clothing application; the other is the development of new PLA nonwoven.

The wireless impregnated PLA nonwoven SMS invisible material for clothing is a spunbond and meltblown composite product. It has the advantages of strong filtration performance, no glue, and no toxicity. It has played an important role in the field of medical and industrial filter materials.

SMS spunbond PLA nonwoven are composed of high-strength continuous filaments and have a large share in the disposable protective clothing market.

The latest development is to add special additives in the production process or post-finishing of spunbond PLA nonwoven, so that the products have the functions of flame retardant, antistatic, radiation protection, hydrophobicity and conductivity.

In the development of new fibers, water-soluble PLA nonwoven are an environmentally friendly product, and their application range is gradually expanding.

Polyvinyl alcohol water-soluble fiber is used to produce spunlace nonwovens, which is a good material for the production of anti-radiation and anti-pollution clothing. In order to improve the protective effect of medical nonwoven fabrics, it can also be compounded with a water-soluble film to improve the barrier performance of protective clothing.

In the development of new composite PLA nonwoven, the United States has developed a new type of cotton fiber composite PLA nonwoven. The fabric is cotton, acrylonitrile fiber heat-bonded PLA nonwoven, which combines with spunbond fabrics to form a two-layer or three-layer composite material.

The product feels similar to kapok knitted fabric. It has the advantages of excellent strength and elongation, water absorption and water retention, fast core absorption, and low tendency to pilling. After finishing, it stretches by 50%. It is a new generation of biochemical protective clothing developed by the US military.

The advantages of woven, knitted and PLA nonwoven are maximized. The outer layer of the protective clothing is torn nylon/cotton fiber silk, which is hydrophobic treated. The lining is a PLA nonwoven with activated carbon. The innermost layer is Tricot warp knitted fabric.

Compared with the existing protective clothing, this clothing can improve the lightness and reduce the cost while providing special chemical protection for military personnel. The PLA nonwoven can withstand at least three washings.
