What Are the Classifications of Medical Protective Suit?

Medical protective suit includes various types of clothing worn in medical environments, so there are many classification methods. So what are the classifications and scope of medical protective suit?

Medical protective suit classified by purpose

Medical protective suit can be classified according to purpose and usage scenarios: daily work clothes, surgical gowns, isolation gowns, and protective clothing. Daily work clothes refer to the white coats worn by medical personnel during daily work, also known as white coats. Surgical gowns are specially designed clothing worn in the operating room. Isolation gowns are worn by medical personnel when they come into contact with patients, visit patients' families, and other occasions. Medical protective suit refers to the clothing worn by personnel in special areas such as medical emergencies, entering infectious disease areas, and electromagnetic radiation areas.

Medical protective suit classified by service life

According to service life, medical protective suit can be divided into disposable protective clothing and reusable protective clothing. Disposable protective clothing is discarded after use without the need for disinfection and washing, which is convenient to use and can avoid cross-infection. However, disposable materials degrade slowly and are prone to environmental pollution. This type is usually used for surgical gowns and isolation gowns with high requirements for protection. Reusable protective clothing needs to be washed and disinfected after use, usually with better comfort but usually lower protective performance. The washing and disinfection process also increases a large amount of manpower and water resource costs. This type is usually used for daily work clothes (white coats) with lower requirements for protection.

Medical protective suit classified by material

According to different processing methods of materials, medical protective suit can be divided into woven and non-woven protective clothing. Woven materials are mainly used for processing reusable medical protective suit, including traditional woven fabric, high-density fabric, coated fabric, and laminated fabric. Non-woven fabric protective clothing materials are mostly disposable, and commonly used ones include spunbond non-woven fabric, hydroentangled non-woven fabric, SMS (spunbond-meltblown-spunbond) composite non-woven fabric, flash evaporation non-woven fabric, and spunbond covered film products, etc. Generally, non-woven fabric protective clothing has better protection than woven materials.
